BB92 Press-Fit (MTB) Bottom Bracket Compatibility

Also known as: BB92, Press Fit 92, PF41 MTB, BB89.5

BB92 is the wider, mountain-bike sibling of BB86 — the same 41mm press-fit bore built around a 24mm spindle, but 92mm wide (89.5mm on some road/cross frames). It is the dominant press-fit standard on modern MTB frames.

Like BB86 it is native to 24mm Shimano cranks, with reducer bottom brackets available for SRAM DUB and other spindles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a BB92 bottom bracket threaded or press-fit?

BB92 is a press-fit standard: the bearing cups press into the frame bore (41mm bore, 92mm (89.5mm road) wide, press-fit cups). Press-fit saves weight and allows a larger spindle, but demands tight frame tolerances and can be more prone to creaking than a threaded shell.

What shell width does a BB92 frame use?

BB92 frames use a 92mm shell (41mm bore, 92mm (89.5mm road) wide, press-fit cups). Always match your bottom bracket to both the standard and your frame's exact shell width before buying.

Which cranks fit a BB92 frame?

With the right bottom bracket, a BB92 frame can run cranks on several spindle standards. In our catalogue we have BB92 bottom brackets for: 24mm (Shimano Hollowtech II); 30mm (BB30 / PF30 / 386EVO). Pick the bottom bracket that matches your crank's spindle — most commonly 24mm (Shimano Hollowtech II).

How many BB92 bottom brackets and frames are listed?

We currently track 9 BB92 bottom brackets and 27 frames built to the BB92 standard, checked against our compatibility engine.

My BB92 bottom bracket creaks — what can I do?

Press-fit creak usually comes from insufficient preload or a bore that is fractionally out of tolerance. Options include a thread-together (compression) bottom bracket that clamps across the shell, careful greasing/retaining compound on the cups, or — on frames with a ~46mm bore — converting to a threaded T47 bottom bracket for a permanent fix.
